A day in the life of a heli ski guide

The alarm rings between 6 and 6:30am. It’s still dark outside. It’s time for the heli ski guides to roll out of bed. There is dampness in the air. A glance out the window of the cabin; it’s snowing lightly. We have just wrapped up our summer season, which was a success all around, but it was a cold one and lots of snow never melted in the high alpine and glaciated areas. How New Ski Runs Get Discovered and Named

The discovery started with a sunny week and a hard skiing group that skied every day, all day. They had fresh snow on the first day, so the beginning of the week saw them near the lodge in knee deep powder. Spring at the lodge, Winter in the mountains.

Well winter is still in full swing in the mountains at Bella Coola. We had minus 10 to 15 celcius in the alpine, with a recent 25 cm dump overnight on Tuesday. The air is crisp, light just beautiful on the peaks, and skiing can't really get any better. Even the Swede has been out to have fun and show off his skiing skills (well he mostly just barely touches the snow... a bit of air time and some knitting of lines where the snow accumulates the most).
